Today is the Feast of St. Teresa of Jesus (of Avila) and the anniversary of my Baptism! Here is a tribute to one of the three female Doctors of the Church.
Welcome to Avila!
The first foundation of St. Teresa was the Convent of St. Joseph. This church has several relics of St. Teresa, including her bed, several books, a jug, and a drum and castanets which she played at Christmas.

The Cathedral of Avila
The basilica of San Vicente has the relics of the saint and is built on the site of his martyrdom with his two sisters in 306.It was here that St. Teresa had a vision which prompted her to begin the reform of the Carmelite order.
The Convent of St. Teresa was built over her birthplace.
